Name three HR Practices that drive extraordinary financial performance
From the CEO’s Desk
Dear colleagues,
This August we will celebrate nine years as an incorporated company. As I reflect back, it’s clear that achieving this milestone would not have been easy without the support of our clients and partners. A big thank you for trusting us and for your repeat business. HCG started as a talent analytics firm, helping companies evaluate their HR programs and provide data-based guidance. Over the last nine years, we added several services under the Leadership Excellence and Talent Management Excellence categories. We are pleased to have brought value to our clients in making high-stakes hiring decisions that are informed by assessment data. In our coaching and consulting practice, we are most proud of contributing toward our clients' accelerated growth in the emerging markets by advancing the capabilities of their leadership teams. Our talent management learning and certification programs now have several hundred certified professionals who are contributing to HR transformation in various capacities. These achievements would not have been possible without the tireless effort and commitment of the HCG team. As we grow and expand, we remain committed to the use of evidence-based methods. We will also strive to better ourselves and continue to drive value for our clients.
As we look to the future, our goal is to be responsive to our clients and readers. Many of you have commented on the usefulness of the expert advice and analyses we presented in our newsletters. In 2015 we transitioned to our webinar series to discuss in depth analyses on trending topics. In response to your comments, this month we are launching HCG Talent Insights. This will take the format of a periodical and offer another avenue for sharing evidence-based guidance for managing talent. Here’s what you can expect in each edition:
In this August edition, we feature our podcast with Dr. Mahesh Subramony. He discusses the HR value chain and the promise it holds for driving engagement and organizational outcomes. Any HR leader looking to streamline and create a focus on value creation would not want to miss this podcast. Our eBook on leadership development shares a list of “must ask” questions. Leaders who wish to ensure the greatest return on investment from their leadership development effort must explore these questions. In addition, the eBook includes science-based guidance to help you make informed choices. On the topic of leadership, Corey Grantham’s blog highlights a leader characteristic that is often overlooked. Organizations that require this characteristic from their leaders should expect to see extraordinary team performance.
We hope you enjoy this inaugural edition of HCG Talent Insights. If you find values in these pieces, please do us a favor. We’d love it if you forward this newsletter to your colleagues and share on social media.
Warmly,
Shreya Sarkar-Barney

PODCAST: In this podcast Dr. Subramony describes the HR Value chain and the benefits it brings to organizations. He discusses the importance of selecting the right set of practices and shares three key bundles of HR interventions that drive extraordinary outcomes. These are the talent bundle, the energy bundle, and the opportunity bundle. Listen to the podcast for advice on which one of these bundle is the most critical and has an amplifier effect.

EBOOK: The leadership development industry has endured the recession. Organizations are reporting a surge in spending to develop leaders. On average, companies increased their budgets by 14% in 2012 alone. According to some estimates, just U.S. based companies spend upwards to $14 billion annually on leadership development activities. CEOs continue to express concerns about the lack of leadership in their organization. With such significant investments at stake, it is legitimate to scrutinize the effectiveness of these efforts.

BLOG: Ask someone to describe the characteristics of an effective business leader and you are likely to receive an answer that includes self-confidence, dominance, toughness, decisiveness, fearlessness, drive, and accomplishment. In fact, many executive recruiters look for these characteristics when selecting leaders for all levels of their organizations. But do these behaviors make for a more effective leader? Do these behaviors positively impact team performance?
