Dr. Kenneth G. Brown, Professor of Management and Organizations & Henry B. Tippie Faculty Fellow, at the University of Iowa, will speak on the power of storytelling in making evidence and data actionable.

This unique ceremony marks an important milestone for our recent graduates from the  US, Kyrgyzstan, and India, who have demonstrated proficiency in using evidence-based methods to address the talent management needs of their organizations.


About Dr. Kenneth Brown

 

Professor Brown is a professor, academic administrator, and consultant. His current role as Associate Dean involves oversight of a program for over 2000 students. Although students in this program are primarily in residence in Iowa City, the college also coordinates an online bachelor’s program and student visits to London, Italy, Shanghai, and Beijing. Professor Brown has taught in the London and Italy programs and, in addition, travels frequently for his academic and consulting work. In 2012, he worked as a visiting scholar at both Monash University and Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia, and in summer 2014 he completed academic visits to China and Denmark. This past month, he completed a Fulbright Specialist assignment to Seoul National University.

Professor Brown conducts research on learning and motivation. He also studies the science-practice gap as it relates to everyday management practices. His research has been funded by the US National Science Foundation and the Management Education Research Institute. He is co-author (with University of Iowa Professor Greg Stewart) of Human Resource Management: Linking Strategy to Practice (3rd edition, Wiley & Sons) and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). His research appears in many journals and edited books and has been discussed in the Wall Street Journal along with other media outlets. For his scholarly work, Professor Brown has received the annual research awards from both the American Society of Training and Development (2001) and the Society of Human Resource Management (2003), and awards for the best paper published in Human Resource Management (2003) and Academy of Management Learning and Education (2011).

Ken has served on numerous national committees, including an elected term on the Executive Committee of the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management. He served as the editor-in-chief of the premier educational journal in the business disciplines, Academy of Management Learning and Education, and has served or is currently serving on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Review, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Human Resource Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Education, and Personnel Psychology. He is currently a board member of the Human Resource Certification Institute.
